Friday Wave Check: Good News and Bad

This stretch of the coast remains sleepy!

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Laguna Beach Patch surf report.  Well, the good news ... we've got some really nice weather, the bad news ... the surf along this stretch of sand remains super small.  So, if nothing else, get out there and go for a paddle!

The conditions are clean and glassy early on, with a mix of some new slowly building steeper angled northwest swell and some smaller south-southwest energy in the water.

That recipe is delivering some fairly weak lines, with maybe a few fun ones on a longboard or something really thick and wide.  Most spots in Laguna Beach are running about knee-high, with the standout breaks pulling a few waist-high waves.

Taking a look at those tides ... at 8:57 this morning it pushes up to a 4.6 high, which will have many spots pretty full and slow mid-morning.  Your best bet comes once that tide drops a bit, but before it eventually drains out to a 0.4 low at 3:01 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, that water temperature has climbed up a couple of degrees, so throw on no more than a 3/2 fullsuit, with it averaging between 58 and 59 degrees.  See ya in the water!
