Teen Boy Loses Arm, Rescued From Rocks In Emerald Bay

Laguna Beach police, lifeguards and Orange County Fire Authority responded to teenage boy trapped in rocks off Emerald Beach Wednesday.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The beautiful Emerald Beach became a flurry of activity Wednesday afternoon as helicopters, police and lifeguards responded to a 15-year-old swimmer who was stuck between rocks about 100-feet offshore. The teen somehow got trapped beneath a large rock and lost his right arm and suffered injuries to a leg during the extrication Wednesday in Laguna Beach.

The boy got trapped around 3:30 p.m., with his arm and part of his leg stuck under a large rock, OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito said. It was not immediately clear how the rock wound up on top of the teen. Reports from the scene say that the boy had been crawling on rocks when he fell and some of the rocks rolled on top of him.

Orange County Fire Authority crews worked to free the teen trapped between heavy boulders. The boy lost at least part of his right arm, Bommarito reported.
