LAGUNA BEACH, CA β€” Laguna Beach's upcoming Arbor Day Celebration will also pay homage to one of their residents who loved the outdoors, all things green and growing. In the city of Laguna Beach, there is cause for celebration on Thursday, March 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Frederick M. Lang Park.

It is the second annual arbor day event, which began in 2018, and this year honors the gift of the Lang park and its native chaparral. The city of Laguna Beach is what is called a "Tree City USA" town. With numerous trees in and around the city, those old-growth eucalyptus and local deciduous trees are cause for celebration. Lang park has become more known for its tennis and basketball courts than trees.

If you haven't heard of Frederick M. Lang, the park's namesake, he was a local landscape architect and environmental activist. Lang advocated the use and conservation of Mediterranean plants adaptable to our southern California climate, according to the LA Times. A longtime resident of Laguna Beach, he passed away in 1996 at the age of 81, but he has not been forgotten by those who knew and loved him. Lang's legacy of plantings includes the park where this year's Arbor Day Celebration will take place, and the ceremonial tree planting will take place.

Also, at the event, kids can relish the outdoors, the views of the ocean, and learn from experts about trees and planting. Other activities related to outdoors and gardening will take place, and there will also be music and games.

With a slight chance of rain ending Thursday, the weather should be ideal for showcasing the emerald coast from the Lang Park location.
