Laguna Playhouse To Honor The Late, Great Ella Fitzgerald

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Laguna Beach residents are invited to take part in a night of dance, song and jazz as Artists Lounge Live presents: "First Lady Of Song: Alexis J Roston Sings Ella Fitzgerald" at the Laguna Playhouse. This is the third production of the Laguna Playhouse's hundredth season, and organizers promise a "one-of-a-kind" experience for audience members.

Authored by award-winning actress, singer and writer Angela Ingersoll, "First Lady Of Song" pays homage to Ella Fitzgerald and her legacy on American jazz. Actress, director and playwright Alexis J. Roston will honor Fitzgerald's groundbreaking pipes and style of music onstage with the help of musical direction by William Kurk.

Roston is known for known for her mesmerizing portrayal as Billie Holiday in several productions of "Lady Day" at Emerson's Bar and Grill in Chicago. She's earned Chicago's Jeff Award and a Black Theatre Alliance Award, according to Artists Lounge Live's website.

"Roston effortlessly emits the sultry swing and playful joy that made Ella an American treasure," A Laguna Playhouse news release said.

Previews for "First Lady Of Song: Alexis J. Roston Sings Ella Fitzgerald" begin Wednesday, March 2. The performance runs until March 20 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Drive.

"This performance is simply remarkable," said Ellen Richard, executive producing director at the Laguna Playhouse. "We are thrilled that Michael Ingersoll and Artists Lounge Live are bringing the extraordinary talent that is Alexis J Roston to the Playhouse for this one-of-a-kind experience."
