Laguna Police Chief Decries Actions Of Minneapolis Officers
Chief Laura Farinella, retiring in July, expressed her thoughts on the death of George Floyd over one week ago.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA —As protesters took to the streets in Orange County, Laguna Beach has been mostly quiet. Not so for their chief of police, Laura Farinella, who expressed her thoughts on what has transpired in the killing of George Floyd last week in Minneapolis.
On Thursday, Farinella released a statement on the matter that has led people to the streets in peaceful protest against police brutality, the carotid restraint method that led to Floyd's death, and Black Lives Matter. Officials are weighing in their
"The deeply concerning and tragic death of George Floyd has understandably resulted in outrage and anger nationwide," Farinella writes.

"As the chief of police, my officers and I strongly condemn the actions of the involved Minneapolis police officers who took the life of Mr. Floyd," she says. "These actions go against how we train as law enforcement officers and the core values of our police department.
According to Farinella, Laguna Beach Police "support everyone's right to free speech and the right to peacefully assemble."

"The safety of our community remains our top priority, and the Laguna Beach Police Department is closely monitoring the events occurring across the county and the country," she says.
The Laguna Beach Police have contingency plans to respond to any unlawful protest activity, and remain committed to the safety of the citizens of Laguna Beach.
