LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Heroes with Hearts were awarded Thursday, and in Laguna Beach, Student Resource Officer Cpl. Cornelius Ashton and Laguna Beach's own Riley Russo were both awarded by the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP).

Russo is the youngest Trauma Intervention Program volunteer the county has ever had. At 16-years-old, she is also the youngest TIP award winner, they said.
Ashton was the Laguna Beach Police Department's Heroes With Hearts winner for 2019.

In all, 22 individuals were honored for going above and beyond their call of duty to provide compassionate support to citizens in crisis throughout the year.

“Throughout the year, TIP volunteers are encouraged to nominate emergency responders, doctors, and nurses they have witnessed being especially compassionate with survivors of tragedy,” said Wayne Fortin, TIP Founder. “Volunteers from our organization nominated nearly 400 responders, and these individuals are so important because it’s well-known that the quality of support survivors of tragedy receive from responders and healthcare professionals, at the scene, is crucial to their long-term recovery.”
