Laguna's Postcard-Perfect 'Boom Boom Bench': Photo Of The Week

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Have you stopped by the "Boom Boom Bench" on Mountain Road in Laguna Beach? The sculptural loveseat by Michael Stutz is a landmark well-loved by Laguna Beach locals, and may very well offer some of the best views in Laguna Beach.

This photo by Laguna Beach resident photographer Susana Cruciana depicts shows the sculpture under the shade on a sunny coastal day.

The sculpture pays tribute to the Boom Boom Room, an iconic gay bar in Laguna Beach located beneath the Coast Inn on South Coast Highway. While the bar is closed now, Cruciana remembers the location fondly and told Patch that she was a regular while the business was running.

"They played amazing disco music," Cruciana told Patch. "Wish I had an iPhone back then!"

The art installation was originally installed in 2018, and at the time, included a rainbow flag celebrating the history of the site. A plaque reads: "This bench is a celebration of Laguna's deep history of welcoming people of all walks of life to enjoy its beauty and community spirit."
