Learn To Surf In Laguna Beach Summer 2023: What To Know About Classes
Life in Laguna Beach is better on the water, as local surfers know. If you ever wanted to learn, now is your chance!
LAGUNA BEACH, CA — If you want to learn to surf in Laguna Beach, this may be your best chance to do so. The city of Laguna Beach is sponsoring a surf school, they said on their city recreation website. Attendees of the surf school must know how to swim though no surfing experience is needed.
Classes are offered on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Summer Camps Laguna Surf and Sport at 1088 Coast Highway. The cost of the surf school is $650 per person and includes a goodie bag with a t-shirt, hat, posters, and stickers for all graduates of the program.
Students will be taught safety tips, surfing etiquette, and ocean awareness skills according to the entry form. When you go, bring a swimsuit, backpack, lunch money, sunscreen, towel, water and sandals. All other equipment will be provided, including surfboards and wetsuits, though students are welcome to bring their own soft surfboards and wetsuits, according to director Steven Chew.

"The Laguna Beach Surf School uses Catch Surf Soft Surfboards for safety and easy readability," Chew said. During the camp, the students may do more than just surf. They will also body surf and skimboard, as well as learn a bit about the preservation of the ocean environment and coastal biology.
