Rojas-Moreno is accused of killing 27-year-old Tatum Goodwin on Nov. 12. The defendant made his first court appearance Friday in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. His arraignment was rescheduled for Monday, court records show.

Goodwin's body was found by a construction worker in a secluded area on Sunday near the 200 block of Ocean Avenue in Laguna Beach, just a short walk away from the restaurant she worked at.

"This arrest was the result of outstanding police work by our investigations team that worked tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to bring justice to Tatum Goodwin and her family," said Laguna Beach Police Department Chief Jeff Calvert.

Goodwin was a popular assistant manager at Carmelita's restaurant in Laguna Beach near the corner of Broadway and Coast Highway. The restaurant staff organized a fundraiser through the online site GoFundMe to benefit her family. A memorial with flowers and candles in her honor was created near the site where she was killed.

Goodwin's friend and neighbor Georgette Schuda told The Orange County Register that Rojas-Moreno had no prior relationship or direct connection to Goodwin.

According to the report, Schuda worked at The Royal Hawaiian Fire Grill in Laguna Beach and had previously come in for a drink at Hennessey's Tavern, located just down the street from where Schuda works as a manager.

“I definitely have served him before and thought he was super weird because he was unnecessarily rude and aggressive,” Schuda told the newspaper.

Tatum's sister, Kaylee Goodwin, took to Facebook to express her devastation upon hearing the news.

"I don't feel like Facebook is the place for this...On Sunday I lost my Sister Tatum Goodwin, she was taken from this world by someone evil. And I will never feel or be okay. My world is shattered. My family is shattered," she said. "I’m grieving and it’s so hard to see life after this."

Rojas-Moreno's bail was set $1 million.

Anyone with information on this killing was asked to call Laguna Beach Police Department Detective Tanner Flagstad at 949-497-0369. Tipsters can also call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
