A Man Was Shot And Killed Inside A Newport Beach Home Early Thursday.

A man forcibly entered a home near the quiet block of Indus Street and Redlands Drive early Thursday morning.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A man attempting to gain entry into a Newport Beach home was shot and killed, police reported Thursday. He remains unidentified, pending notification of next of kin, according to Newport Beach Police.

On Thursday at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers learned that a man was acting erratically in the neighborhood of Indus Street and Redlands Drive.

"While Newport Beach Police Officers were responding to the call, the male subject forcibly entered a nearby residence," Newport Beach Police spokeswoman Heather Rangel said.

The occupant of that home shot at the man attempting to gain entry. As police arrived, they found the subject dead at the scene.

Homicide investigators shared that he may have been suffering from mental health issues and that drugs may have been involved.
