Memorial for Driver Killed in Police Pursuit

Friends and relatives of Benjamin Davis, the 32-year-old Huntington Beach resident who was , gathered over the weekend and left a makeshift memorial where he crashed into a tree.  

Davis was chased by California Highway Patrol officers while driving an allegedly stolen Scion. The pursuit, which reached speeds up to 100 mph on southbound Laguna Canyon Road, began early March 28, after Davis allegedly failed to stop when officers attempted to pull him over on the 405 freeway near the Jamboree exit.

A Laguna Beach Police Department report said spike strips were placed near the tennis courts not far from where Davis crashed on Broadway, in an effort to stop or slow his vehicle. Authorities said they don’t yet know if the spike strips played a role in the accident.
