More Jumbo Waves Rumble Into O.C.

The Beach Boys never sang about rip tides, but perhaps you'll be inspired to fill the gap by this week's surf forecast, which predicts and waves up to 10 feet high through Thursday afternoon.

A storm system in the South Pacific is generating the turbulence, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect waves 5 feet to 8 feet high, with some sets running 10 feet high on south-facing beaches in Orange County, prognosticators say. Most of the big-wave action will take place Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, but rough conditions are likely to persist until 5 p.m. Thursday.

The high surf will also create "strong and dangerous rip currents," forecasters said. Consult a lifeguard before taking the plunge.
