No Charges For Stalking Suspect Arrested In Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, CA – Prosecutors, citing the need for more investigation, declined to file charges against a man who allegedly confessed to stalking and threatening an ex-girlfriend in Laguna Beach, police said Tuesday.

Laguna Beach police Sgt. Jim Cota said prosecutors wanted more time to evaluate the evidence before considering whether to bring a case against Gregory Murray, 28, of Laguna Beach. He was released from custody on Monday night, according to jail records.

The investigation of Murray began on June 8 when the alleged victim said she woke up to find a man -- later identified as Murray -- in her room, according to Cota.

Murray and the woman dated for about three months in 2015, Cota said. When the relationship ended, he allegedly sent about 150 "harassing emails, as well as threatening text messages and messages over social media, to the victim and members of her family as recently as March," Cota said.

Murray was questioned by police on Friday, and after he allegedly confessed, he was arrested on suspicion of stalking, criminal threats and burglary, Cota said.
