LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Residents of Laguna Beach called in a suspicious item at a mailbox on Glenneyre Monday, police reported.

Local police and Orange County Sheriff's Department blocked Glenneyre between Thalia and Sain Anns for about an hour, midday.

The suspicious package was discovered in a mailbox at the 800 block of Glenneyre, Laguna Beach Police Lt. Jim Cota tells Patch.

Orange County Sheriff's Department bomb squad arrived to inspect what was thought to be a mail fishing device, Cota says. That device was found to be safe.

"Thieves use the fishing device to steal mail," Cota said. It is not known if any mail was stolen from that location.
