Red Flag Fire Warnings Issued In Laguna Beach

The National Weather Service alerted residents of critical fire weather conditions through Friday morning at 8 a.m.

LAGUNA BEACH — A red flag warning was released for the Orange County Coastal Areas from 3 a.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Friday morning, the National Weather Service reported.

"East to northeast winds of 20-30 miles per hour, with gusts to 50 mph and isolated gusts to 70 mph combined with extremely low humidity will create critical fire weather conditions," Alexander Tardy, meteorologist for the NWS said.

Gusts in Laguna Beach were expected to reach 45 to 50 mph, according to forecast models.

During a Red Flag Warning, parking restrictions are implemented for the Diamond/Crestview
Neighborhood, the emergency operations coordinator's office said.

Any vehicles who are parked in marked parking spaces with a “red flag” painted in the center of the asphalt may be cited or towed.

When Red Flag Warnings are issued from the National Weather Service this information will be shared on the City’s website, social media accounts, official press release, and through the Red Flag group in Nixle.

"Laguna Beach residents should take this time to evaluate their preparedness levels," Emergency Operations Coordinator Jordan Villwock said. In order to ensure you are contacted during a Red Flag Warning, please register with the Nixle Red Flag group by texting “LBRedFlag” to 888-777.
