Ride-Hailing Big News at Laguna Beach WSJD Global Technology Conference

An annual event to bring together tech leaders and luminaries, ride sharing and the international marketplace for ride-hailing is big news

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — 20 million rides a day, that's the goal Didi Chuxing Technology Company says that they want for their international, global market.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal on the Laguna Beach WSJDLive 2016 Global Technology Conference,Didi's president Jean Liu stated her intentions. The Chinese ride-sharing company is looking to collaborate or compete with current players. If there is a market not yet saturated by Uber, Lyft or others, Didi can compete, she said.

"We can match your ride within five minutes," President Jean Liu said at the Laguna Beach California 2016 global technology conference on WSJD Live.

Their goal, to expand their ride sharing company to expand into the Uber and Lyft and most recent release of Orange County's "See Jane Go" ride-sharing market place.

"We are not a transportation company, we are a technology company," she said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Didi made $20 billion in gross annual bookings in September, and hosts those 20 million rides a day in 400 cities across the globe.

Lyft Inc.'s co-founder and President John Zimmer denied reports the ride-sharing firm is for sale, according to the live feed.

"We have been approached multiple times with people interested in acquiring the business," President John Zimmer said. Though Didi, Apple, and other companies have expressed interest.

Though the company works like Uber, in the capacity of sharing a small portion of each driver's revenue, Didi has focused on getting their business model perfect in the Chinese market.

When asked how she arrived to the Laguna Beach conference, she laughed.

"I took Uber from the airport to the hotel, but I took a Lyft from the hotel to the conference," Ms. Liu told the moderator. "I found both experiences equally good."
