Boy Shot At Bus Stop During Robbery

The youth was approached Thursday afternoon in Santa Ana by two juveniles, one armed with a knife and the other with a gun, police said.

SANTA ANA, CA – A boy was shot Thursday afternoon during a cell phone robbery in Santa Ana, and two teenagers were taken into custody, police reported.

The shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. at First and Bristol streets, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, who said the victim was expected to recover.

The victim, whose name and age were not released, was at a bus stop when two other juveniles -- one armed with a knife and the other with a gun -- approached to rob him of his cell phone, Bertagna said.

During the robbery, the suspect with the gun asked the victim about any gang affiliations before shooting him in the upper body, Bertagna said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, he said.

Police did not identify the suspects, but said one of them is 16 years old.
