Stars To Wear Black To Protest Harassment At Golden Globes

Women in entertainment are declaring "Time's Up" on sexual harassment in Hollywood.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The laundry list of men accused of sexual assault continues to grow, and women in the entertainment industry are getting increasingly fed up with the "casting couch dynamic" of Hollywood. Now, they're protesting the harassment.

“Time's Up” is a movement against sexual harassment created in response to the Weinstein effect. One initiative is calling for women on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7 to wear black and speak out about sexual harassment and assault.

Multiple sources have confirmed that major actresses, including those presenting and nominated, will wear all black to protest sexual assault in the entertainment industry.

Golden Globes 2018: What To Know And Where To Watch

The protesting through fashion will start at the Golden Globes, and may extend throughout awards season, sources told PEOPLE. Sources suggested to Us Magazine it was originally a small group of actresses planning to wear black in solidarity, but word spread and more have agreed to wear the shade – currently 30 are planning to participate.

“This movement is spreading rampantly and pretty much all the nominated women and others attending are participating,” a source told Us Magazine. “All the stylists who already did fittings are now changing out their clients’ original picks for Globes (potentially shifting those dresses to the SAG Awards or other carpets).”

Many men and woman have come forward accusing big Hollywood stars of sexual assault in recent months, including producer Harvey Weinstein, actors Kevin Spacey and Dustin Hoffman, filmmaker Roman Polanski, NBC frontman Matt Lauer, and comedian Louis C.K., among others. This cultural shift in speaking out about harassment led Time Magazine to name the 'Silence Breakers' – those brave enough to share their experiences as sexual assault survivors – as their iconic person(s) of the year.
