13 Flee Panga Boat In South Laguna Beach: Watch

Police activity was reported on the shore at West State Beach early Thursday, when two boats carrying 10+ landed amid rain and hectic waves.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA —South Laguna Beach traffic was at a standstill on Thursday morning after police responded to the West State Beach area. Before 8 a.m. two panga boats, were seen landing on the coast.

A witness in the area caught sight of the vessels and the 13 individuals scattering away from the boats, and recorded it on video (below).

Laguna Beach Police Department officers and Border Patrol agents responded to the scene and quickly rounded up 7, however, more remain unfound.

"Officers detained more than seven individuals," LBPD Sgt. Jim Cota said. Units remained and searched the area for more suspects, he told us, and two "take away" vehicles that were to believed to be picking up the boat passengers were located.

Police, Border Patrol, and Marine Safety Officers are still seeking six who fled the boat. Panga boats are often used by suspects smuggling drugs or people into the country by way of southern California shores, Cota said.
