South Laguna Community Garden Park Listed For $5M: Report
The South Laguna Community Garden Park is working with realtors to arrange a purchase that will secure land for a permanent park.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA β The future of the South Laguna Community Garden Park was thrown into question on Friday, after a parcel in which the garden is located on was listed for $5 million, the Laguna Beach Independent reported.
βWe are working with the realtors involved to arrange a purchase that will secure the land for a permanent Community Garden Park. We are pleased that we now have a willing seller, and an avenue to communicate with the owner of the Garden Park land,β community garden spokesperson Ann Christoph told the Laguna Beach Independent.
The 7,522-square-foot property has been donated by the overseas property owner since 2009, according to the report.

The lot, which is located at Coast Highway and Eagle Rock Way, is in the South Laguna Village Commercial Area Zone, the report said, and is intended to serve the commercial needs of residents. The parcel of land is in a very high fire hazard severity zone, according to state fire officials.
The park annual hosts well-attended community events, such as the Spring Fling community potluck festival.

In May, the Laguna Beach City Council unanimously voted to uphold a $500,000 pledge toward the purchase of the parcel if community members could raise the rest of the asking price, according to the Laguna Beach Independent.
