Like to see record-setting performances on the gridiron? Then you’d better get over to Laguna Beach High early on Friday night to grab yourself a seat at Guyer Field, where the Breakers (2-0) will look to rewrite the school’s record books for the third week in a row when they take on Bishop Montgomery of Torrance in a nonleague football game at 7 p.m.

In their season-opening game under their first-year coach, veteran Mike Churchill, the Breakers in a 55-7 victory over visiting Webb of Claremont. It was also a school record for total offensive yardage in a game, and Laguna Beach did not complete one forward pass.

In last week’s 73-40 victory over visiting Ocean View, both team and individual records fell. The Breakers set records for most points in the first half (44), most points in a game (73) and highest combined final score (113). Individual records were turned in by junior running back Drake Martinez for points scored (32) and by junior kicker Robbie McInerny for PATs (eight) and points scored by a kicker (11).

Against Ocean View, the Breakers rushed for 506 yards, which is second only in the record books to the previous week’s total of 579.

Bishop Montgomery (1-2), the opponent in Laguna Beach’s third home game in as many weeks, doesn’t appear to be much of an offensive threat as the Knights have averaged only 147 yards rushing and 43 yards passing in a 41-23 victory over Vista del Lago, a 42-13 loss to Salesian of Los Angeles and a 28-9 loss to El Segundo. Bishop Montgomery is led by senior running back Blake Ault, who averages 111 yards of rushing -- that's two carries for Martinez.
