Three Ways to Remember 9/11 in Laguna Beach
A sculpture dedication, prayer and pancakes, and a huge motorcycle procession through town.
With the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks upon us Sunday, there are three ways for Laguna Beach residents to commemorate the date.
The most prominent event will be the dedication of the city's 9/11 memorial sculpture, Semper Memento, created by Laguna Beach artist Jorg Dubin. An installation ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday in , near the flagpole, which the public is invited to attend.
During the ceremony, bagpipes will be played by David Lopez of the Laguna Beach Fire Department, Cameron MacLeod Gair, Nicholson Pipes and Drums and Josh Cooper of the Ft. Irwin Fire Department, and conclude with the national anthem sung by Laguna Beach High School junior Haley Castuera.

And the annual Remember 9/11 memorial motorcycle ride, which starts at 2:15 p.m. at Cook's Corner in Trabuco Canyon, will again pass through Laguna Canyon into the city and down Broadway, turning right on Coast Highway and onward to its eventual end point at McKenna's on the Bay in Long Beach, where a ceremony, concert and fireworks are scheduled. Some 3,000 riders are expected. According to the itinerary, the bikers will arrive in Laguna Beach sometime between 2:50 and 3:10 p.m. Sunday, so plan accordingly for high traffic levels.
