Village Entrance Project Continues In Laguna Beach

Work continues on the Village Entrance Project in the city of Laguna Beach. What do you think about the Village Entrance Project?

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — After the groundbreaking ceremony on September 11, contractors dove in and started their work leveling and excavating the area to be known as the Village Entrance Project.

That project will add much needed updates to lighting, parking, as well as beautification aspects to the downtown area, the city said. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to make a mess before you can enjoy the benefits of a redesign.

In September, much demolition and excavation took place, according to the city. Utilities were uncovered and soil was re-compacted for the new parking lot. The employee parking behind City Hall was reopened.

For October, the city warned residents that the entrance/exit to Lot 11 at Forest Avenue traffic signal would be closed Oct. 8.

During this time, there would be new asphalt base added, as well as drilling and foundation pouring to the area behind city hall.

Pedestrian pathways are also being developed this month, to accommodate foot traffic along Laguna Canyon Road during construction.

The lot will eventually add trees, shrubs and ground cover, beautifying the space. It will also add multi-use walking and biking trails, easily accessible from the village. There will be 52 bicycle racks and four electric vehicle charging stations. The new parking lot will have updated lighting as well as decorative fencing along the drainage channel, two brand new vehicle bridges as well as new parking lots, sidewalks, storm drains and concrete pavers.

According to the city, in a recent release, there will also be a new building for Laguna Beach Police and Marine Safety storage.

"The Farmer's Market will continue in the Lumberyard Lot each Saturday morning, until the spring of 2020, when it will move to Lot 11," the city said. The entire project is expected to take one full year, plus a few months to complete, with a summer of 2020 total completion date.
