Volunteers Haul Hundreds Of Pounds Of Trash From Beaches
These 240 volunteers from Pacific Marine Mammal Center and Western Digital cleared the beach of trash last week.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA - Approximately 240 Western Digital employees and Pacific Marine Mammal Center volunteers gathered one week ago as a part of Western Digital's community outreach initiatives and collected over 200 pounds of trash including surf board pieces, cigarette butts, hundreds of single use and recyclable plastics, toy parts, straws, bottles and cans.
"The ambitious and critical mission of the Pacific Marine Mammal Center explicitly includes 'inspiring ocean stewardship through collaboration'. It's absolutely something that we take to heart knowing that we, as a single non-profit organization, can't do this alone," ," said PMMC CEO, Peter Chang. "Our partnership with Western Digital is an extraordinary example of how a community can come together to make a broader impact. They have a genuine culture of social responsibility embedded in their employees that I've seen first-hand even before my time with PMMC. We couldn't be more honored to be part of this beach clean-up day."
As a part of it's corporate volunteer program, Western Digital and their employees have volunteered in the past at PMMC, scrubbing pens, cleaning pools, weighing fish and other odd jobs to assist PMMC care for sick and injured marine mammals currently in their care. Taking their work a step further, Western Digital and PMMC planned this event together to help clean the environment we share with these animals.

PMMC would like to thank Western Digital and the City of Huntington Beach for their partnership with PMMC and commitment to our community, ocean environment and marine mammals.
