Watch: Disneyland's Star Wars Land Breaks Ground with Touch of The Force

Disneyland gives Star Wars fans a taste of thrills to come with a 360-degree photo of the 14-acre Star Wars land groundbreaking.

Can you feel the force? It’s strong in Orange County this week where Disneyland broke ground on the new 14-acre “Star Wars” land.

Disneyland released a 360-degree photo Thursday sharing a glimpse of the land that is still far, far away. Actually, Disneyland has not yet released a timeline for the construction of the new theme park, which will include a ride that allows visitors to take control of the Millenium Falcon, the spaceship from George Lucas's’ original 1977 film. Another attraction will drop guests into “a climactic battle between the First Order and the resistance.”

Even without a single ride built, the construction site looks like a scene from a dusty war-torn land in a galaxy far, far away where the forces of good and evil are tied up in an epic battle. The photo features storm troopers guarding gear, AT-ATs towering above construction workers, and BB-8 and R2D2 hanging about as fighter pilots buzz overhead.

Stores and restaurants in the new area will all conform to the theme as well, including a reproduction of the 1977 film’s famed “cantina” bar. According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, the project is Disneyland's largest single-themed expansion ever.
