Woman Is Second Person Killed by Amtrak Train Wednesday

A woman was struck and killed by a train in San Clemente Wednesday, briefly affecting the evening commute.

Authorities have not yet made public the identity of the woman struck and killed by an Amtrak train in San Clemente Wednesday.

It was the second person killed by an Amtrak train that day. A man filming near the tracks in North Hollywood was struck and killed by a train Wednesday morning.

The woman was struck east of Avenida Califia around 1:30 p.m., according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

The accident occurred on a track shared by Amtrak and Metrolink passengers, and travel was disrupted until Wednesday evening.

“As a result of the incident, several trains on the Orange County and Inland Empire Orange County Lines were impacted,” Scott Johnson, a spokesman for Metrolink said via email. “Buses were used to accommodate passengers between the Laguna Niguel and Oceanside stations. Metrolink passengers were informed of the service interruptions at stations along the line and by conductor announcements on the affected trains, while updates were provided through social media.”
