DANA POINT, CA — A series of small quakes rattled coastal Orange County Monday, including a magnitude 3.5 quke off the coast of Dana Point, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first quake struck at at 1:22 p.m. about 18.6 miles southwest of Dana Point. It was centered at a depth of about 5 miles. Residents reported feeling shaking throughout Orange and San Diego counties, according to the USGS.
It was quickly followed by two aftershocks, including a magnitude 2.8 one minute later and a magnitude 2.3 quake at 3:06 p.m.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
According to the Southern California Seismic Network, "Aftershocks may be expected in the next few days, the largest expected is approximately 1 magnitude unit smaller than the mainshock. There is a small chance (about 5 percent) that a larger quake could occur, with the likelihood decreasing over time."
The quake likely struck along the Palos Verdes fault, according to the Southern California Seismic Network.
