SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A popular beach trail is returning to Orange County.
The length San Clemente's beach trail is expected to reopen to the public this week after landslides and repairs forced officials to close sections of the trail over the last two years.
The closure was initially triggered in 2024, when a hillside collapse during a wet winter destroyed the Mariposa Bridge north of the pier, severing the beach trail.
The work is part of a Coastal Rail Emergency Project that spans seven miles of train tracks through Dana Point and San Clemente, according to transportation officials.
While the entire project was priced at about $93 million, the beach trail cost about $24 million, transportation officials said.
Officials and community members will celebrate the opening of the trail on Friday at 9 a.m. at Linda Lane Park in San Clemente.
The event will feature brief remarks from transportation and community leaders as well as a ceremonial reopening of the trail.
