'Behind the Orange Curtain' Film Heads to N.Y.C.
Diane Feinstein and Mary Bono Mack meet with local Vernon Porter at a Senate hearing regarding prescription drug abuse.
On Thursday at 1 a.m., myself, Brent Huff, the film's director, and my daughter, Brianne are flying to NYC to be a part of the Stony Brook Film Festival. We have been accepted to this prestigious festival, and are honored to screen the film to a sold-out 1,100-seat audience.
We will also be schlepping to Manhattan for a few meetings regarding the film and back on the airplane Saturday evening. The Stony Brook Film Festival is the East Coast premiere of I'll update you as I can from N.Y.C.
As you know, another celebrity death has occurred due to prescription drugs. Sage Stallone passed on July 13, and they are still waiting on toxicology tests. No parent should have to bury their child. The celebrity status of the Stallones will bring attention to the problem but I ask myself daily when will this madness stop? Another tragedy, and so senseless.

The Sheriff's Association has removed their opposition to the Good Samaritan Bill (AB472). We need to make sure that Gov. Jerry Brown knows just how many of us support this bill and that it MUST be signed into law - no exceptions.
The Good Samaritan Law will allow the call for help to save a life without fear of arrest or prosecution. The CDC states that the age for overdose is between 18-25 years old. If it is an opiate overdose, first responders can administer Naloxone and it will instantly stop the overdose and transport for further medical care. The call is vital to the possibility of savings lives. This law must be passed as law in the State of California. Several other states, including Washington, New York, New Mexico already have it enacted. This law does not encourge bad behavior. It will save lives.

Your support is greatly needed. Please write Gov. Brown's office and encourage him to sign AB472 The Good Samaritan Bill into law. There is a roar from parents here in Orange County who have lost their children due to drug overdoses. Many of them believe their child would be alive today had a call been placed for help.

Facebook works in mysterious ways. I met a sheriff on FB that is from Laguna Beach but was in Sacramento for Porac training. He knew nothing of AB472 and when I told him about it - he said he was working with the lobbyists and political action teams and was going to sit down with them and find out exactly what this bill was and what it meant. We had in depth conversations and off he went.
Vernon Porter is our leader in this fight. He is currently in Washington D.C. meeting with Diane Feinstein and Mary Bono Mack and Drug Czare Gil Kerilkowski. Joining him is Avi Israel from New York who also lost his son due to drug addiction.
Veron will be testifying before a committee while in Washington - and what got Diane Feinstein's attention was Vernon left a copy of Behind the Orange Curtain on his last Washington visit. It got her attention - and there you go. Vernon lost his beloved daughter Vanessa. He is fighting hard - so that other parents won't have to go through what he did with his daughter.
This law MUST be signed into office. We need everyone's help to inundate Gov. Brown's office with emails, letters, phone calls, whatever you can do - and do not stop until the law is passed. We greatly need and appreciate your support.
Massive action solves all problems - and we certainly know how to make some noise in OC!
