Earth Day at Ocean Institute Filled with Activities on Saturday

Pick your Earth Day participation at the Ocean Institute from beach and harbor clean-up to electronics recyling and eco-friendly crafts.

Can you believe Earth Day has been around more than 40 years?

April 22 marks Earth Day this year. The Ocean Institute is celebrating the national event locally with activities to encourage awareness and appreciation for our environment. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. the Ocean Institute in Dana Point will salute the Green and Blue.

Get an early start: Beach/Harbor clean-up begins at 9 a.m. and continues to 11 a.m. Not only will you contribute to a clean environment, your efforts will get you FREE admission to the Ocean Institute on Earth Day. Registration for the clean-up effort will be held at the Ocean Institute.

Bring electronics and athletic shoes to recycle:  Do the world a favor.  Get rid of old desktop and laptop computers, servers, cell phones, USP batteries, computer monitors, TVs, remote controls, telephones, answering machines and more.  Absolute Green Electronics Recycling will be on hand at the Ocean Institute as a fundraiser event for the Ocean Institute.

Green up your knowledge:  Why not plant your own wildflower seeds in a decomposable pot to take home?  Discussions will be held during the day about water conservation, composting, drought resistant plants and more. The Tree of Life Nursery, also will have native plants available for purchase to take home or to plant at the Ocean Institute’s native plant garden.

Create eco-friendly crafts and hear stories:  It’s all about reusable. You can decorate your own reusable bag.  Children can listen to a story and get involved in hands-on marine animal activities.

Green helps our earth.  Blue helps our oceans.
