Girl Scouts Busy Mapping at Moulton Elementary School
Moulton Elementary School map project is a great way to serve the community.
Each year, Girl Scout Troops sell cookies to raise money to pay for their activities. Many troops, including Troop 92 from also use money to make a charitable contribution.
This year, they first held a meeting to discuss projects they could do to help their school out. They even met with for her input and approval. It was decided to paint a new map of the United States on the playground. It is used to play a game.
Then came the hard part...finding a template. Leaders Maggie and Brenda bought a template and supplies. On a recent hot day in August, the girls were joined by parent helpers and siblings to work on their project. Finishing touches will be completed this week just in time for school to start.

The map project took about 6 hours to paint. The girls laid out the template which consisted of six long strips of paper that were approximately 20 feet long. Each strip had to be taped down on dots that formed the outline of the states. The girls connected the dots to form the States. Parent helpers Shelly, Eddie and Anthony helped the girls with pouring the paint and taught them how to outline the states.
"Our day was a hot one with many water and sunblock breaks but in the end we had a great turn out and our Girl Scouts did a great job", said troop leader Maggie. "We still have some touch ups and the state abbreviations to add to the map."
