Influential Figures Forever Changing in Society
Influential figures in society have changed drastically in the last decade. Social media and television have helped in this, drastically.

Just a quick rant and rave I thought I'd share with you all.
As I channel surfed this afternoon, I found myself stumbling on the E! channel. If you're not familiar, the channel is most famous for reality television, off the wall talk shows (Chelsea Lately, The Soup) and probably most famous for its documentary show entitled, E! True Hollywood Stories.
It just so happens that such a documentary was airing as I was so undecided on what to settle on. The True Hollywood Stories, typically chronicles the life of a famous individual, showing how they rose to fame.

I did not, however, think that the person being documented would be Snooki. If you don't know who (or what) a Snooki is, then you are one of the lucky few. I urge you to stop reading at this moment, save yourself!
If you do know who Snooki is, then you will no doubt be just as horrified as I am, knowing that Snooki, out of all the influential people in Hollywood, is being chronicled on national television.

As I sat there, listening to her story, listening to how she became famous overnight for binge drinking, over tanning and being overly vulgar in any situation, I realized that the polarizing figures in society are changing, and not necessarily for the better.
Gone are the days when people like Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela or Margaret Thatcher are being broadcast nationwide for their good deeds. The children of this generation aren't seeing or hearing about the truly amazing people in the world, doing amazing things for others.
No. Instead they see and hear The Jersey Shore, they Tweet about nonsense that has no bearing on their lives or the world directly around them.
This, is a travesty.
Has the world gone crazy. Please tell me why Snooki is raking in millions, yes you read correctly, millions of dollars a year, for parading around intoxicated 90 percent of the time? The documentary even showed that she was part of a commencement speech at Rutgers University. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, has one semester of community college under her belt, but was paid $32K to close out a college graduation.
Simply baffling.
This shift in influential figures in society needs to make a shift back to those who really should be influencing our youth. Social media has taken over the world, and has no intention of looking back.
I guess in hindsight, I cannot be all too upset at Snooki for cashing in. Life gave her lemons, and she squeezed the crap out of them (literally). She is making the best of her situation and doing it well.
The question is, do we really want the future of this world to look up to Snooki and her antics? Let's get these kids reading instead of tweeting. Isn't that a novel idea?
