Proposition 25 Was a License to Steal
Did Prop 25 promise more than it could deliver?
If you ever questioned the integrity of your state politicians you should have your answer now. They, by and large, have none.
Remember how they got you to vote for proposition 25. The proposition promised you they would lose their pay if they were not able to pass a balanced the budget by June 15 if you would allow them to pass it with a simple majority.
To the simple minded (the majority that voted ) it sounded like a sure fired way to get a balanced budget passed. Well golly gee look what happened. The legislator passed a flawed and unbalanced budget, but on time. Two things happened however: The governor vetoed it and the controller ruled it was not balanced.

For 12 days our legislators worked to pass another budget (proved also not to be balanced but I digress) and complained about not being paid. It didn't matter that they hadn't lived up to their part of the bargain. How dare they not be paid!?
Now a judge has decided that our controller, upholding the rule of the proposition by not paying the legislators' salary, overstepped his authority and ordered the legislators' pay restored. I guess that settles it. The legislator can pass any budget they want as long as it's by June 15 and still get paid.

Come on, admit it. You really have to feel just a spec dumber now then you did. You really believed the legislators were working for you and not themselves. Kind of like a speed train to nowhere. Here's a good rule to follow for the future: If your legislators tell you it's a good thing to vote for because it will help you make sure you vote no.
As my mommy once told me: "The number one job of a politician once they have been elected is to get re-elected."
