Stacks Pancake House Definitely Stacks Up

A fun and quirky menu offers something for everyone from breakfast items to lunch.

Who doesn’t love the occasional big, tasty breakfast out? Well, that is what we thought when we headed to Stacks Pancake House this week. , Stacks is definitely casual and has a beach-y feeling.

There is indoor, as well as patio seating on the large wood deck that it shares with . Inside, the walls are painted red and green, and display surfing photos.

We arrived early on a weekday morning, picked up menus at the counter, and chose a window table. For a small restaurant, the menu is pretty large, a little quirky, and gives a nod to several cultures.

There is a section of Belgiun waffles, ranging from buttermilk, to fresh fruit-topped waffles, to an Oreo cookies and cream waffle. Pancakes can be ordered in a short stack of three or a regular stack of five. They come in most of the same flavors as the waffles, with the addition of macadamia banana, which is noted as a customer favorite on the menu.

For those who love a French start to their day, Stacks offers a variety of crepes, including those filled with Nutella, banana, blueberries, or strawberries. Garden stuffed crepes are prepared with Swiss cheese, scrambled eggs, spinach, mushrooms, green peppers, and are served topped with Hollandaise sauce. The French toast options are all made with King’s Hawaiian sweet bread, and come with a variety of toppings.

Of course, there are eggs, too! You can build your own omelet by choosing ingredients from the lists of veggies, meats, and cheeses on the menu. If you are not feeling creative, Stacks also offers Denver, vegetarian, Greek, meat lovers, and Kalua pork omelets. There is also a fitness omelet, made with egg whites, turkey, spinach and parmesan cheese. Omelets come with your choice of pancakes, rice, toast, home fries or fresh fruit.

“Eggcellent combos” are eggs and meat combinations, such as bacon and eggs, Spam and eggs, ham and eggs and Kalbi (Korean barbequed short ribs) and eggs. These meals are all served with your choice of pancakes, rice, toast fries or fresh fruit. In addition, there is a section of Eggs Benedict that includes the classic as well as several interesting takes on the original.

Other specialties include a breakfast burrito, huevos rancheros, and Loco Moco, which is a hamburger patty, Spam or Portuguese sausage, served on steamed rice, topped with two eggs and brown gravy.

After we placed our order at the counter, the waitress brought us coffee, which was quite good. I noticed on the chalkboard behind the counter, that they also serve lattes and some other coffee drinks.

Our breakfasts were brought to our table pretty quickly. My husband had ordered the bacon and eggs eggcellent combo. As soon as it came, he said: “Oh, I should have gotten the Lite Bite.” His meal was three scrambled eggs, four or five pieces of bacon and three huge pancakes. I don’t think the attached photo conveys how large the pancakes are.

The Lite Bite, which he referred to, is one scrambled egg, two pieces of bacon, and two pancakes. Despite his concern that it was too much food, he ate almost all of it, and commented about how good everything was.

I ordered the strawberries and cream Belgian waffle. It was as pretty as I hoped it would be, covered in fresh strawberries and encircled with whipped cream. Our waitress also brought us a container of boysenberry syrup and coconut syrup, in addition to the maple syrup that was already on the table. My meal was a wonderful treat and a great way to start the day.

Stacks Pancake House is also open for lunch and has a lunch menu, which boasts some teriyaki lunch plates, along with burgers, sandwiches and salads, as well as some breakfast items.

Stacks isn’t fancy, but the varied menu, tasty food and generous portions, should be able to satisfy most breakfast and lunch diners. It is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I give Stacks Pancake House 4 Patches out of 5.
