Stop Joseph Kony...Cover the Night

Joseph Kony brutalizes the children and people of Uganda. He often forced children to kill their parents or siblings with machetes or blunt tools.

Today, April 20 is COVER the NIGHT.

A group who supports Invisible Children is promoting the night to get the message out that Joseph Kony is a wanted man. The message they put out today, "...we are serving our neighbors and promoting justice for Joseph Konyon our own communities. We are creative, we are many, and we are proving that the future of international justice depends on our mutual respect and collaberation. After a week of global advocacy, we are showing the world that our liberty is bound together. Join us as we share the night and track what's being done...."

About a month ago , my 18-year-old daughter started talking to me about Jospeh Kony. I never heard of his name but I am familiar with the horrific stories of the invisible children having read several books written by people who have survived. So I checked out the website, started talking to co-workers and friends about it...then the "incident" came when the  originator of the movement, Jason Russell, had a mishap in San Diego detracted away from the project. Like many other news stories, it faded out.

My daughter is somewhat of a social activist, and for this I am very proud. She has a good heart and wants equality for all people. And this is not the first time she has been an acitivist. She also participates in the Tom's Walk a Day Without Shoes each year. With the KONY movement, she purchased a kit from the Invisible Children website that gave her a t-shirt, stickers, poster, and information on how to educate the public and get more involvement in the community.

So tonight the movement is going to put up posters around towns all across the world. They are wearing stop Kony T-shirts, and they are getting the word out, one person at a time. They are also asking the public to engage your leaders by sending them messages, serve their local community and earning the right to be heard globally by acting locally and volunteering for 3 hours. And hit the streets when the sun goes down they will go out into the communities and promote justice for Joseph Kony.

When you get up Saturday morning, the invisible children will still be treated inhumanely. Joseph Kony will probably still be on the run. You will go on with your life. But those who have participated in this event have enlightened, educated, and brought spirit to the cause which will eventually stop Joseph Kony.

Be a part of it. It's not too late. Go to kony2012.com website and click on "support," write to your politicians, forward this blog to your friends. I encourage you to take photos of evidence of this event and add to this blog. To date, there are 3,590,051 pledges (the number increased on the home page as I wrote this) representing 204 countries. The video of the site has been viewed 104,506,332 times.
