Coroner Identifies Diver Who Drowned at Crystal Cove

Authorities identified a 27-year-old man who died while freediving 400 yards off the coast.

The Coroner’s Office today identified a 27-year-old man who died while freediving at Crystal Cove State Park near Laguna.

Reseda resident Wesley Kim -- one of two men diving about 400 yards from shore and to depths of 45 feet -- didn’t emerge from the water so his companion flagged a passing boat and lifeguards were notified about 1:35 p.m. Saturday, California State Parks spokesman Kevin Pearsall told the Orange County Register.

The man’s body was recovered about 3 p.m., Pearsall told the newspaper.
