Dana Point Elementary School Lockdown Monday

An elementary school in Dana Point was on lockdown temporarily on Monday during a police search in the area.

DANA POINT, CA —An elementary school in Capistrano Beach was locked down for about 90 minutes Monday as Orange County sheriff's deputies looked for a possibly suicidal man armed with a handgun.

Authorities locked down Palisades Elementary at 26400 block of Via Sacramento from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as a precautionary measure.

"Deputies were called about a man at a residence nearby threatening to kill himself and possibly armed with a gun," Orange County sheriff's Lt. Mark Stichter said.

Deputies did not find the man at the residence, according to Stichter. The conclusion with arriving officers was that the man was possibly in another county, and not at the location initially reported.

The school was released from lockdown shortly after. No one was injured or arrested during the search.
