A Christmas tree and presents were saved in a Dana Point structure fire on Avenida Las Palmas, OCFA said.

DANA POINT, CA — Thanks to fast work on a Dana Point house fire, a family can still have Christmas, though they have been displaced from their home.

"A residential fire broke out on the 26700 block of Avenida Las Palmas," OCFA Capt. Larry Kurtz said.

The fire was centered in the kitchen and was reported at approximately 9 p.m. Monday.

"We made aggressive interior work of the fire which was knocked down in 12 minutes," Kurtz said.

The fire was contained from the wrapped presents around the family's Christmas tree, and Christmas was saved thanks to the quick work of the Orange County Fire Authority, according to Kurtz.

"The family of three has been displaced," he said. "The Red Cross was notified, however they do have family and friends in the area they can stay with."

Damage to the Dana Point residence is estimated at $100,000 for the structure and $50,000 for the contents, Kurtz said.
