Dana Point Woman Arrested in Connection with San Clemente DUI Crash on 4th of July 2013

A 46-year-old woman was arrested today on suspicion of second-degree murder in an alleged drunken driving accident that killed a 76-year-old pedestrian in San Clemente on the Fourth of July 2013.

Kelly Michele Wolfe of Dana Point was additionally charged with hit and run causing a permanent and serious injury, driving under the influence of alcohol with injury, driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.08 percent, and failing to yield to a visually handicapped pedestrian -- all felonies.

Wolfe also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid driver’s license.

Marthann Demchuk of Monrovia was fatally struck while walking in the bike lane on El Camino Real just south of Camino Capistrano. She was with her 13-year-old grandson at the time, according to Deputy District Attorney Stephen Cornwell.

Wolfe’s blood-alcohol the night of the crash was measured at 0.31 percent, Cornwell said.
