Dana Point Woman's Murder Trial Begins

A Dana Point woman faces second degree murder charges in the hit and run death of a grandmother as she crossed PCH with her grandson.

Opening arguments are expected to begin the second degree murder trial of a Dana Point woman accused of killing a grandmother as she crossed the street with her grandson in San Clemente.

Jury selection is expected to wrap up in the morning in the trial Kelly Michele Wolfe, 47.

Wolfe allegedly struck and killed Marthann Demchuk, 76, of Monrovia on the 4th of July in 2013. Demchuck was walking north on Pacific Coast Highway, south of the Camino Capistrano intersection, with her 13-year-old grandson at about 8:30 p.m. when authorities believe Wolfe struck her and then kept driving north.

A witness then followed Wolfe until deputies stopped the van in Dana Point, sheriff’s officials said after the incident.

Demchuk was pronounced dead at the scene, while her grandson suffered only minor injuries. Wolfe, was immediately arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony hit and run.
