Dramatic Photos Show Orcas Hunting Dolphins Off SoCal Coast

A pod of orcas hunting dolphins was spotted just off the coast of Dana Point near Strands Beach this week.

DANA POINT, CA — A pod of Eastern Tropical Pacific killer whales that has been hanging around in the waters of the Orange County coast since December put on a show for tourists and residents this week.

On Thursday, whale watchers aboard a Dana Wharf Whale Watching boat got the show of a lifetime when they witnessed a pod of orcas hunting dolphins near the boat.

The orcas were spotted just off the coast of Dana Point near Strands Beach.

According to Dana Wharf owner Donna Kalez, this pod has been spotted in the waters off Orange County consistently over the past month and a half.

"This is the closest they've been. You could see them from standing on the beach," Kalez told KTLA.

According to Kalez, the company plans on taking an all-day excursion on Sunday so residents can see the pod while they are still in the area.
