Driver Plows Through Gate Into Community Pool

A Mission Viejo couple is lucky to have escaped major injury after driving through a gate and straight to the bottom of a community pool.

LAS FLORES, CA - A Mission Viejo couple escaped major injury after plowing through a security gate and plunging into a community pool in Las Flores Monday.

No one else was injured because the pool was empty when the car took the plunge at 11:30 a.m., said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

“Fortunately there were no kids in the pool because it was an overcast day,” Concialdi added. “They blew right through that gate and ended up in the water. There was a bystander that helped them get out of the car.”

The Toyota RAV4 driven by a 67-year-old woman veered right on Seacountry Lane through a locked metal gate and into the neighborhood pool in Las Flores. The driver’s passenger, a man in his 50s, suffered chest pain and was taken to Mission Hospital said Concialdi.

It took crews hours to pull the car from the water because it had to be hoisted directly up to avoid damaging the pool, he added.
