A representative from Orange County Sheriff’s Department High Tech Services Reserve
Unit will share with us all that we need to know to manage and monitor technology safely in our
homes and with our children.
They will cover overall household safety measures including computer management (firewall,
antivirus software, spyware), family practices for computer use (computer in common room, how
to inspect computer, etc), fraud/identity theft, etc.
The presentation also includes a live online demonstration of the social networks kids are
using (and how they are using them) such as Facebook, twitter, chat rooms, etc.
While it might seem like you have years ahead of you before you have to deal with this stuff,
middle school will be here before you know it!
Plan on an hour and a half presentation, followed by a half hour of fielding audience questions.
