Video: Firefighters Rescue Horse After Fall on Wet Concrete
A horse, extremely agitated from slipping on rain-slicked concrete, was sedated and lifted to safety.
Fire crews and an equine rescue team brought a horse to safety after it slipped on wet concrete along an equestrian trail in San Juan Capistrano today.
Firefighters were called about 12:15 p.m. to a trail below Del Obispo Street near Paseo Adelanto along Trabuco Creek, Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority said.

The horse could not get back onto its feet because its metal shoes kept slipping on concrete beneath Del Obispo Street that was wet from rain that continued during the rescue, Concialdi said.
The horse suffered some minor injuries as it thrashed about trying to get back up, according to Concialdi.

A harness was placed around the horse, which was tranquilized to keep it calm during the rescue, Concialdi said.
The animal was then slid into a trailer and the rescue was complete by about 1:30 p.m., he said.
The horse would be examined by a veterinarian, but it did not appear to be seriously injured, Concialdi said.
The horse’s rider was unhurt. He and his wife, each on their own horse, were out for a ride when the man’s horse slipped, Concialdi said.
