Going Green at New City Hall
With just a few months to go before the new City Hall opens, there's still much to be done, such as landscaping.
The is expected to open at the end of August, but in the meantime, some important additions are being made.
Workers will begin planting a variety of trees, shrubs and other plants. Over the course of the next few weeks they will plant 113 trees of nine varieties—including Australian willow, coast live oak, jacaranda and date palms—and 30 different kinds of shrubs, vines and drought-tolerant plants.
Also being added is the state-of-the-art irrigation system that will use reclaimed water and is designed to take into account different sun and shade exposure. It features a smart-irrigation controller with separate control valves for all trees. In the event of a mainline leak, the master flow valve will automatically shut down the system, saving water.
When the project is complete, about 67,000 square feet will be landscaped at the site, at the corner of Crown Valley and Alicia parkways.
