Got Tdap?
Make sure your kids get their mandatory Tdap booster shots before school begins in the Capistrano Unified School District on Sept. 7. There are several opportunities to get them at clinics—fee-based clinics and one free clinic—in and around Laguna Niguel.
Students who still need their Tdap booster shots have several opportunities to receive them at fee-based clinics and one free clinic.
The Tdap booster vaccination helps prevent tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, also known as whooping cough. The vaccination can be obtained from a family physician, at local pharmacies, or through the Orange County Health Care Agency. Health agencies are also encouraging adults to get a pertussis booster shot.
The CARE Foundation is sponsoring several on-campus Tdap vaccination clinics provided by the Wellness Group. Clinics will be held at on Monday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m. to noon; and at on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Wellness Group charges $55 per shot. A parent must be present to sign consent form. A free clinic with 3,000 doses of the vaccine will be held at San Clemente High School on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
State law now requires each student entering seventh grade through 12th grade in the 2011-12 school year to have proof of a Tdap booster shot given on or after his or her seventh birthday.

The law includes current, new and transfer students in public and private schools. Next year, and beyond, all students entering the seventh grade will need proof of a Tdap booster shot before starting school.
