1.When/Where: Every Sunday kids can enjoy a free fishing clinic at Dana Wharf, Dana Point Harbor,  noon-12:30 p.m.  

Why Go:  Dana Wharf offers a dockside experience for young anglers. Ask the experts and learn fishing techniques and hook-tying secrets and win raffle prizes. No reservations are needed.

2. When/Where: The Great Park Balloon Free Flights, Irvine.  Every Thursday through Sunday

Why Go: The Great Park Balloon is the Orange County Great Park’s first major attraction.  With the ability to hold up to 25 to 30 passengers, and soar up to 400 feet above the surrounding landscape, it also serves as a public observation deck for the Great Park’s development. The Great Park Balloon is one of the largest tethered helium (not hot air) balloons and the first of its kind in the United States. It is environmentally safe, non-polluting, and virtually silent.

3. When/Where: Sunday, Feb. 20,  Smucker's Stars on Ice 25th Anniversary Tour, 4 p.m., Honda Center, Anaheim. 

Why Go: Tour is headlined by the 2010 Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek and Olympic silver medalist Sash Cohen, as well as Olympic gold medalists from Canada, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier.

4. When/Where: Tuesday, Feb. 22,  free story time at Pottery Barn Kids, The Shops at Mission Viejo, 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
