Grab & Go: Fun Things to Do This Weekend April 9-10

There's Legoland, a famed pianist's performance and a toddler event this weekend for families to enjoy together.

Lots of fun things to do this weekend with the family, from visiting to Legoland to listening to a famed pianist.

1. Ongoing at Star Wars MiniLand at Legoland  is where guests will enjoy seven of the most famous scenes from the six live-action Star Wars movies, as well as a scene from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, all made from of 1.5 million Lego bricks. Guests can see life-size Lego models of Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Darth Vader. Legoland is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday.

2. Friday, April 8,  Jazz Monsters Concert features Kenny Baron, Jazz Hall of Fame pianist, at Soka University from 7 to 9 p.m. Barron is the 2010 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master. The NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship is the highest honor that the nation bestows on jazz artists. Admission is $15 and free for those under 18. Tickets sold at the door. No reservations necessary.  Go early and enjoy dinner at the Soka Bistro, opening at 5:30 p.m. and charges $10.25 for all you can eat.

3. Sunday, April, 10, take advantage of free admission to the Orange County Museum of Art from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., every second Sunday of each month.  Children ages 12 and under are free every day.

4. Tuesday, April 12, head to Pretend City Children's Museum in Irvine for Toddler Talk with the Parenting Doctor, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. (workshop is one of three: 4-12, 4-19, 4-26).  This activity is presented by Pretend City's Child Development Initiative, called Good to Go from Head to Toe! and facilitated by Dr. Ann Corwin, the Parenting Doctor. This activity is for grown-ups and their toddlers, and grown-up participation is required. Pretend City admission is not required or included.

5. Sunday, April 17, go to the  Aquafina MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Competition from noon to 2 p.m. This event is free to participate in for kids ages 7 to 14, as of July 16. Do your kids want to show off their baseball or softball pitching, hitting and running skills?  If so, then register for this event by calling 949-425-5100. The event will be held at at 25191 Chapparosa Park Rd. in Laguna Niguel.
