Homemade Cell Phone Charger Causes Bomb Scare, Beach Closure
Deputies evacuated Dije Beach and Metrolink service was interrupted when a homemade cell phone charger that looked like a bomb.

A homemade cell phone charger caused a scare near Dije Beach in San Clemente today.
Deputies responded to the scene at 10:30 a.m., Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock said.
The item was constructed with a PVC pipe with and caps and protruding wires, according to the lieutenant.

The immediate beach area was evacuated and Metrolink service was interrupted as the personnel sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Section investigated and determined the device was not a threat, Hallock said.
The scene was clear by about 12:30 p.m., he said.
