Largest Fish Yet Caught at Laguna Niguel Lake

A Dana Point man takes the honors for catching the largest trout this year recently at the local lake.

This 12-pound, 8-ounce trout was caught on rainbow power Bait in Zone 2 last week.

According to , co-owner of Rip 'n Lips, the company that rents fishing equipment, boats and more at the lake, more than 13,500 pounds of rainbow trout have been stocked since Nov 16, and  more than 2,000 pounds of trout were stocked Dec. 13.

"Trout fishing continues to be awesome. Weekly and bi-weekly stockings have made for non-stop action for shore anglers, boats and float tubers. Night crawlers and Power Bait is working well for bait fishermen," Mendoza said. "Trout worms, jigs and crank baits are working well for those throwing artificials. Orange, Chartreuse and White have been the best colors. Fly fishermen using bead head midges in the flats continue to score big numbers of trout."
